BHPA Licensed Paragliding Reserve Repacking
About
Who Am I?
I'm Paul Robinson, an active paraglider pilot of 8 years. Back in my first year of flying, I attended a DHPC club repack and quickly realised I actually enjoyed the meticulous process of inspecting and repacking my reserve. I've looked after both of my reserves ever since, repacking them every 6 months. I guess I've always been slightly obsessed with folding ripstop. Toby Colombé of Passion Paragliding once watched me packing my wing at the end of a day's flying in Àger and said "That's love that is....". Sums it up!

My Repacking Credentials

Beyond maintaining my own equipment every six months, I have spent years studying a wide variety of reserve models and deployment systems at club events. To formalise this experience, I attended the official BHPA training course. After completing the 20 required supervised repacks and passing a rigorous examination, I attained my official BHPA "Emergency Parachute Systems License".
I treat every reserve inspection and repack as if it were my own - because I know that one day, a life might depend on it.

The Precision Difference
I provide professional paragliding reserve repacking services. Many emergency parachute repacks happen on gym floors or living room carpets. At Precision Repack I treat your reserve like the life-saving aeronautical equipment it is. From humidity controlled packing space to mandatory 24-hour airing out, I ensure your lifeline is ready for action.
BHPA Licensed
Trained and Licensed by the BHPA with strict compliance to UK safety standards. You will receive a BHPA record of inspection which will be accepted by SIV providers

Environment Controlled
Optimal humidity controlled environment for airing and packing your reserve. I will air the reserve for 24 hours at a controlled 45% humidity prior to inspection

Table Packed
I pack on a clean, raised, anti-snag table for full and thorough inspection and surgical precision folding. No grit from the floor will find it's way into your reserve

One of the most critical steps of a repack is ensuring the reserve actually leaves the harness. At Precision Repack I have a harness hanger which allows a test extraction in full flying position, for complete confidence that the deployment will be successful.

In-Person Pickup (preferred)
Sit in the harness hanger and perform a test deployment in full flying position. Ideally you should wear your flying gear for this, including helmet and gloves, to ensure you can spot the handle and grab it quickly with your thick gloves on.
Postal Service
If you have sent your harness by post I will perform a test extraction in the harness hanger on your behalf. If you have just sent the reserve you will need to do the installation into the harness and subsequent test extraction yourself.

Repack Frequency
Why Regular Repacks Matter
Your reserve parachute isn't just a piece of fabric, it’s a system designed to work in seconds under extreme stress. Your parachute spends almost all of it's life compressed, unused, and out of sight. It could be your only lifeline in an emergency, and requires regular servicing to ensure it works as designed when you need it most. Regular inspection and repacks help combat the silent enemies of the emergency parachute.
Moisture & Humidity
Even small amounts of moisture absorbed during flying, transport or storage can make fabric sticky and promote mould or mildew. It can also corrode metal components in connectors and deployment bags.
Compression & Static
A parachute is tightly folded into the harness container for months at a time. Compression and static can cause the canopy layers to "stick" together and create hard creases in the fabric, causing delayed deployment.
Dirt & Contamination
Tiny particles get into the harness and can find their way into the reserve container surprisingly easily. Dust and dirt increase friction between fabric layers and can wear the coatings on the cloth.
How Frequently To Repack
Follow the manufacturer recommendations as a minimum. Some say 12 months, and many manufacturers are now recommending that reserves are repacked every 6 months.
Frequent flyers, coastal pilots, hike-and-fly pilots should lean toward shorter intervals. Also consider an immediate repack if your harness has been exposed to water, extreme humidity, or if you've had a particular bumpy arrival on sand or dust.
Never sit on your harness
On any given day at a paragliding site you will often see pilots sitting on their harness while parawaiting.
DO NOT DO THIS!
The reserve parachute is compressed enough in the container without being used as a cushion and encouraging the panels to stick together. The High Adventure Beamer is quoted as having an opening speed of just 2 seconds, but this is unlikely to be the case if it has been compressed in a small deployment bag for the best part of a year or longer.
Reviews
Top service from a top man. I had both my reserves repacked; solo and tandem. Paul is absolutely meticulous and detailed giving not just a perfect repack but a very thorough hand over and report too. Me trusting somebody else to repack my reserves is a huge compliment and I would not hesitate to recommend Paul.

Provide as much detail as you can here and I will be in touch to confirm the arrangements
Booking Received
Thank you, I will be in touch to arrange the details for your inspection and repack!
In the meantime, please read the following checklist:
Dry Gear Please ensure your reserve and harness are dry. If you've landed in water or damp grass let it all dry out before bringing it in
Documentation Provide your inspection log if your reserve came with one
Deployment Bag If you have deployed and are missing the deployment bag let me know and I can help you source the correct one
Mailons/Soft Links Inspected as standard but if you have specific replacements you would like installed please let me know
Harness Hanger Test Ideally you will collect your reserve in person and carry out a test deployment in the harness hanger. Wear your usual flying gear for this, especially jacket, flying gloves and helmet
Airing Out Period At Precision Repack I will always air your reserve for 24 hours before the inspection and repack to allow the fabric to relax and remove any residual moisture. Please factor this into your schedule
